Eunos Primary School was established on 3 January 1984, drawing students and staff primarily from Jalan Daud Primary School and Telok Kurau Primary School. It was built on the former site of Jalan Eunos and Jalan Daud primary schools, located at the junction of Jalan Eunos and the Pan Island Expressway in Singapore. The school’s first principal was Mrs Salmah Yunos, and it was officially opened on 4 September 1985.
The school underwent a Programme for Rebuilding and Improving Existing Schools (PRIME) upgrading starting in December 2001 (or 2002 according to some sources), during which it temporarily relocated to a holding site at Chai Chee Lane for three years. It returned to its upgraded campus in December 2004, with the new facilities officially opened on 23 March 2007.
Throughout its history, Eunos Primary emphasized holistic education, offering a range of programs to develop students’ character, values, and sense of community. Its Learning for Life Programme, titled “Student Development in the Arts and through the Arts,” was a three-tier initiative including broad-based arts appreciation for all students, targeted co-curricular activities, and specialized programs for talented individuals. The school provided opportunities for student performances, such as the Euni-Voices event, and encouraged participation in arts and sports to foster self-directed learning, confidence, and citizenship. A symbolic kite motif represented the school’s aspiration for students to soar while remaining rooted in their heritage, and a commemorative mural commissioned in 2022 captured signature programs and memorable school experiences.
The school’s song reflected its values of harmony, achievement, and pride:
> It’s a new day everyday in Eunos Primary
> Races in harmony achieving as one family.
> We are Eunosians with grades a soaring
> in Arts and sports exceling.
> We are Eunosians together doing
> school and nation proud.
> We are Eunosians with grades a soaring
> in Arts and sports exceling.
In April 2021, the Ministry of Education announced that Eunos Primary School would merge with Telok Kurau Primary School, effective from the start of the 2022 school year. The merged institution retained the name Telok Kurau Primary School (with the Chinese name 友诺小学, symbolizing the “promise of friendship”) and operates at the former Telok Kurau site on Bedok Reservoir Road. This merger aimed to enhance learning experiences, expand educational programs, and broaden co-curricular activities while ensuring a smooth transition for students and staff. A commemorative publication was released in 2022 to mark Eunos Primary’s legacy.
