About Odyssey Math Tuition
Odyssey Math Tuition (OMT) is a math tuition centre in Singapore founded by Mr. Justin Tan (NUS Mathematics). Located at Hexacube, 160 Changi Road #01-02, Singapore 419728 — about 3 minutes from Eunos MRT — OMT offers MOE-aligned, small-group math tuition with a 24/7 e-learning portal and a free trial.
We started from a simple observation: most students who struggle with mathematics are not bad at it. They missed something once, the class moved on, and everything after that was built on a gap nobody went back for. Almost everything we do follows from that. We teach in small classes so the missed step gets noticed while it is still small. We follow a MOE-aligned curriculum that spans primary through junior college, so a weakness can be traced to the year it actually formed and repaired there. And we record everything into a 24/7 e-learning portal, because the six days between lessons are where most of the real learning happens.
We are honest with parents about what that takes. Understanding arrives before confidence, and confidence arrives before results — in that order, and rarely overnight. What we can promise is that your child will be taught by someone who notices when they are lost, and that no question here is ever treated as a silly one.
math tutor specialist
Mr. Justin Tan
I have been teaching mathematics since 2012, when I started tutoring one-to-one to pay my way through the National University of Singapore. I did not plan to build a centre. I simply kept meeting the same student — bright, willing, and convinced they were hopeless at maths because a chapter had gone past too quickly and they had never been given the chance to say so.
What I learned in those years is that understanding has to come before practice. A student who drills questions they do not understand is only rehearsing their confusion, and the marks show it. So I teach the idea first, in plain language, and only then the technique — and I would rather spend a full lesson repairing something from two years ago than move on and let it compound.
Odyssey Math grew out of that approach. The aim is not only that students improve, but that they stop dreading the subject long enough to find out they can do it. We also ask parents and students for feedback regularly, because no teacher is finished learning. We read it, we act on it, and the next class is better than the last.
Mission
To help every student reach their full potential in mathematics — and to make the subject something they can enjoy rather than survive.
Vision
To be the math tuition centre in Singapore that families trust when it matters. That means teaching by people who care whether a student actually understands, giving genuine support to anyone willing to put the work in, and being straight with parents about what we see and what it will take.
Values
Care, reliability and honesty. We teach with patience, we say what we actually think about a student’s progress, and we treat every question as worth answering — because the one a student is embarrassed to ask is usually the one holding them back.
Math Tutoring Experience
Mr Justin Tan began providing math tuition in 2012 to fund his university fees at the National University of Singapore, and has taught the syllabus continuously since. A decade in front of students teaches you something a syllabus document cannot: not just what is examined, but where each cohort reliably comes unstuck, and which early gaps quietly cause trouble years later.
That pattern recognition is most of the value. When a Secondary 3 student struggles, the cause is often a Secondary 1 habit; when a JC student struggles, it is often an algebra fluency issue rather than anything to do with the current chapter. Finding the real cause is faster than adding hours to the wrong one.
It also became clear that students forget concepts between lessons — not through carelessness, but because that is how memory works. So he recorded the explanations into OMT’s math e-learning system, where a student can replay any topic at any hour, as often as they need. You can view class schedules and fees or book a free trial class to see how a lesson actually runs.
