Juying Primary School
Juying Primary School, founded in 1940 as Ju Eng Public School and re-established in 1995 in Jurong West, later merged with Pioneer Primary School. This profile covers its facts—last reviewed 2026, drawing on official school information—plus how Odyssey Math Tuition’s primary math tuition supports its students in PSLE Math preparation.
Juying Primary School was originally founded in 1940 as Ju Eng Public School in Jalan Kayu by Mr Ang Oon Hui as a Chinese-aided school. The name ‘Juying’ is the Hanyu Pinyin translation of Ju Eng, meaning ‘a gathering of talents’. The school operated until 1987 and was re-established as Juying Primary School in 1995 at 31 Jurong West Street 91 in Jurong West, Singapore. It was officially opened on 1 August 1997 by Mr Peter Chen, Senior Minister of State for Education and Member of Parliament for Hong Kah GRC.

The school’s motto was “Acme in Achievement”. It emphasized holistic development, offering around 10 co-curricular activities to students before the merger.
In April 2021, the Ministry of Education announced that Juying Primary School would merge with Pioneer Primary School in 2022 due to declining enrolment caused by falling birth rates and changing demographics in mature housing estates like Jurong West. The merger aimed to ensure a vibrant learning environment with expanded educational programs and co-curricular activities. The merged school adopted the English name Pioneer Primary School and retained Juying Primary School’s Chinese name (聚英小学). It initially operated at Juying’s site from 2022, with plans to relocate to a new campus in Tengah’s Plantation District in 2025, becoming the first primary school in that developing area. This early merger also facilitated the construction of the Jurong Region Line MRT by freeing up Pioneer’s original site.
The transition included a new school uniform, crest, and song, symbolizing the blending of both schools’ legacies. A symbolic 3km walk from Pioneer to Juying in November 2021 marked the beginning of this new chapter, with combined student numbers around 1,100 and expanded activities to 17. The history and heritage of both schools are preserved in a dedicated space at the merged institution.
As a parent in Singapore’s tough education system, choosing the right primary school for your child can feel exciting yet stressful. In the end, you want a school that builds a solid foundation in studies, helps your child grow fully through fun activities and good values, creates a caring space to boost confidence and toughness, and sets them up well for secondary school and the future—without making daily routines too hard.
