Why A-Math revision is different from E-Math revision
A-Math is not simply a harder version of E-Math, and revising it the same way does not work. The syllabus is narrower and deeper, and the topics depend on one another far more heavily. Calculus alone accounts for a large share of the paper, and it rests entirely on algebraic fluency built two years earlier.
This has a practical consequence. In E-Math a weak topic costs you that topic. In A-Math a weak foundation costs you several topics at once, which is why diagnosis matters more here than anywhere else in the secondary syllabus.
Phase one: find out what is actually weak
Revision fails most often because it is spread evenly over material that is not evenly secure. The first week should produce a list, not coverage.
- Take a topical test cold on each major topic, with no revision beforehand.
- Record the mark and, more usefully, the type of error.
- Sort every topic into secure, shaky or absent.
- Set the secure pile aside completely for the next month.

Phase two: repair, one topic at a time
Work one weak topic at a time: watch the explanation, complete the topical practice, then re-take the topical test. Do not move on until the test is passed. Two topics a week is realistic alongside school.
Order matters in A-Math more than in most subjects. Repair in dependency order: surds and indices before logarithms, algebraic manipulation before calculus, differentiation before integration. Repairing integration while differentiation is shaky wastes the effort.
Where a gap turns out to originate in lower secondary algebra — which is common — go back to that level rather than pushing forward.
Phase three: whole papers under real conditions
Full-paper practice only pays once the weak topics are repaired. Before that it mostly measures the same gaps over and over.
- Sit the paper at the real time limit, in one sitting, without notes
- Mark it honestly, awarding method marks as an examiner would
- Categorise every lost mark as knowledge, method or execution
- Repair knowledge losses; drill execution losses under time

The two error types that need opposite treatment
Marks lost because a method was unavailable and marks lost because a known method was executed badly look identical on the script and need entirely different responses.

Most students in the final months have far more execution losses than knowledge losses and revise as though the reverse were true. That single misallocation costs more marks than any individual topic.

Stop learning new material. The final fortnight is for consolidation and for rehearsing presentation, which in A-Math carries substantial marks on long structured questions.
Re-take topical tests on the repaired topics, redo questions previously got wrong, and practise writing solutions the way an examiner expects to read them: one equation per line, substitutions shown, final answers in the form requested.
Rehearse the habits that recover marks under pressure — classifying every stationary point, checking every integral by differentiating it, and stating units.
