What congruence and similarity actually asks of a student
Two figures are congruent if they are identical in shape and size, and similar if they are the same shape at a different scale. The topic asks students to prove which applies, then to use the relationship to find unknown lengths or angles.

- Write corresponding vertices in matching order every time. This one habit prevents most errors.
- State the test by name in every proof.
- Practise length, area and volume ratios together so the squaring and cubing are automatic.
- Redraw the two figures separately when they overlap in the diagram.
