AI-generated worksheets can be useful for extra practice on a known weakness, provided the questions are in the syllabus, at the right level, and the answer key has been verified.
The appeal and the risk
Generating twenty questions on exactly the topic your child is struggling with, at the right level, is genuinely useful — and hard to find in a book, which covers everything evenly.
The risk is that the generated set drifts: questions outside the syllabus, numbers that do not work out, or an answer key that is simply wrong.
What to verify before use
Scope. Is every question in the syllabus for that level? A generated set on fractions may quietly include operations the child will not meet for two years.
Level. Difficulty tends to drift upwards across a generated set, so the last questions may be well beyond the first.
The answer key. Verify a sample independently. A wrong key is worse than no key, because it teaches the child that correct work is incorrect.
Method. Questions that expect an untaught technique will frustrate rather than help.
Verify before handing it to a child:
- Every question is within the syllabus for that level
- Difficulty does not drift across the set
- A sample of the answer key checks out
- No question needs an untaught method
- The set is short and aimed at one topic
Using them sensibly
Most useful for drilling something specific that has already been taught, rather than for introducing anything new.
Keep sets short. Twenty questions on one weak topic is useful; a hundred mixed questions of uncertain provenance is not.
When a published resource is better
For anything being met for the first time, a properly edited resource aligned to the syllabus is safer. The value of generation is precision on a known gap, not coverage.
Past-year papers remain the most reliable source of correctly pitched questions, because they were written for exactly this syllabus and this level.

Mathematics at primary level does not reset each year, so neither does our teaching. The same MOE-aligned curriculum runs from Primary 1 to Primary 6, which means we can tell the difference between a child who has not met an idea and one who met it and never secured it. Those two situations look identical on a worksheet and need completely different responses.
