What tables, line graphs and pie charts actually asks of a Primary 4 student
Three representations arrive at once, each answering a different kind of question. Tables hold exact values, line graphs show change over time, and pie charts show proportions of a whole.
Pie charts are the conceptual step. They show shares rather than amounts, so a larger slice in one chart may represent fewer items than a smaller slice in another.
Line graphs introduce reading between plotted points, which is a genuine interpretation skill rather than a lookup.

Reading a pie chart as though the slices were quantities rather than proportions of the stated total.

How to practise this properly
For pie charts, always find what the whole represents first. Every slice is then a fraction of that number rather than a number in itself.
On line graphs, check what one square is worth on both axes before answering anything.
When completing a table, fill it in one row at a time and re-read the source data for each entry rather than working from memory.
Ask an interpretation question after each reading question — what the trend shows, which category is largest. That is what the syllabus means by interpreting.
What this leads to
Primary 6 covers the average of a set of data, and secondary statistics builds directly on reading and interpreting these representations accurately.
This is the case for continuity. When the same curriculum carries a child from Primary 1 to Primary 6, nobody has to reconstruct where an earlier gap was left, and no year is taught as though the previous one did not happen. It also means a child moving up does not have to adjust to a different way of explaining the same ideas.
